Kumaran Kundram Murugan Temple

Lord Murugan's temple is situated on the top of a small hillock at Kumaran Kundram near Madras Institute of Technology, not far from Chennai in India. One can have a panoromic view of Chromepet from the top of the hill at which the present Hindu shrine was built in the 1970s. It is situated in between gajalakshmi nagar and nehru nagar and not in Chitlapakam a town located 1 km away from Chromepet. Its a well known landmark in this area and usually gets very crowded on Fridays because of the special puja's conducted. There is a vishnu temple in front of it which was built by a man who dreamt of lord vishnu telling him to build the temple. The ground belonged to Mr.Srinivasan Thiagarajan who gave it in return for another land at Gajalakshmi nagar. The Deity of Lord Murugan in Kumaran Kundram is considered to be equivalent to the one in Swamimalai

There are also idols for Lord Shiva, Sharabeswarar, Lord Vinayagar and The Navagrahas in Kumaran Kundram.

There is a Veda Paatasala - A place where the ancient Vedas of Hindu culture are taught to children and young boys.

Paatasala is equivalent to a school where children are taught various subjects. The word has a Sanskrit origin.

Also, there is a small auditorium inside the temple premises, where cultural events like Carnatic Music programs, Bhajans etc. are conducted.

There is another temple that is just opposite to the Kumaran Kundram Temple. This temple has idols of Lord Anjaneya, Shri Lakshmi Narasimhar, Lord Venkatachalapathi, Goddess Aandal etc.
