Dwarkadhish Temple, located close to the Kamla Tower is dedicated to Lord Krishna. The term 'Dwarkadhish' means the 'King of Dwarka'. Everyday during the worship, arti is performed to the deity. The Jhoola or Swing festivals held in the month of Shravan (i.e in between July and August) is celebrated with great delight. The to and fro movement of the swing represents a journey from the worries of the world, freedom from the earthly attachments and a state of joy. The idol of Lord Krishna is decorated with new clothes, ornaments and flowers. During the festival days, the idol along with one of his consort Radha are portrayed sitting on a beautifully decorated swing. This is done as an admiration to the deities and also to bring delight and gratitude with holiness. On the concluding day of the festival, prasadam or sweet meet are distributed among the devotees.

Time to Visit

The Dwarkadish Temple can be visited between 7:00 AM to 8:30 PM throughout the year. The Temple is best known for its architecture with beautiful carvings and paintings. The Temple is decorated for Festivals like Holi, Janmashtami and Diwali which are celebrated with lot of pomp and grandeur in the temple. During these occasions loads of tourists visit the temple to receive the blessings of the Lord. Presently the management and administration of the temple look after Vallabhacharya section who are the followers.

Mangala darshan of Dwarkadhish is good during the winter months and it

takes place at 6.30 in the morning. Nearly 2,500 to 3,000 people make it every day to say “good morning” or the morning Dharshan to the Lord Krishna. Though the curtains open at 6.30, there are already hundreds of people gathering in the temple courtyard by 6.00. During the hindu festivals like those of Holi, Janmashtami and Diwali, this temple is decorated gorgeously.

Jama Masjid: it is an ancient mosque which was built by Abo-in-Nabir-Khan in 1661 AD and has 4 towering minarets with bright colored plaster mosaic of which a few panels are still present.

Vishram Ghat: This holy ghat on the bank of river Ganga is the place where Lord Krishna is believed to have rested after assassinating Kansa.

Gita Mandir: Situated on the outskirts of the city, the temple is known for the intricate carvings and its exquisite paintings.

Cab, autos and rickshaws are available for people to reach the museum. There is no special accommodation for the visitors. The Dwarkadhish Temple exhibits an excellent work of art.

Images of Lord Krishna, his beloved Radha, and other Hindu deities are exhibited in the interior of the temple. Elements of local art and aesthetics enrich the temple’s architecture.
