Innambur near Swamimalai in Thanjavur district can rightly be called a temple village. Located at Innambur are two famous temples. One is the Vaishnavite shrine dedicated to Sri Devi Boomi Devi Samedha Sri Srinivasa Perumal and another, a Saivite temple Sri Ezhutharinathar temple. Besides these two big temples, there is also a Mariamman temple in the village.
History of Sri Srinivasa Perumal temple dates back to the Vijayanagar dynasty. Veeravalli Krishnamacharya and his nephew Raghava Iyengar, ancestors of Kasturi Ranga Iyengar, Founder of The Hindu, who constructed this temple, installed an idol of Lord Venkateswara with His consorts in the temple. This idol is said to have originally belonged to the Vishnu shrine on the Tirumalai hills at Tirupathi. The idol of Lord Venkateswara was taken from Tirupathi to Navalpakkam in Kancheepuram for safe custody when the fear of Moghul invasion was haunting the minds of devotees at Tirupathi. Veeravalli Krishnamacharya secured this idol for installation at Innambur. Daily pujas are performed uninterruptedly as per Sri Vaikanasa Agamam. Srinivasa Sath Sangam at Innambur has been doing the ‘pujas' and maintaining the upkeep of the temple.
Come the month of June every year, it is time for Thirukalyanam at the temple. Thirumanjanam will be performed to the Lord at 8.30 a.m. Thirukalyanam will be held between 5.30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Procession of the Lord will be taken at 7.30 p.m. Ekanda Sevai will be held at 9 p.m. Festivals held at the temple are monthly Shravanam, Navarathiri
Utsavam during the Tamil Month of Purattasi, and Adhyayana Utsavam during Margazhi.
Sri Ezhutharinathar temple located at Innambur has an interesting history. King who ruled that area once wanted his accountant to bring all the accounts immediately next day. Accountant did not know what to do as he could not prepare all the accounts in one night. He prayed to Lord Siva. He came in the guise of the accountant and submitted the accounts to the King. Later the accountant came to know that the Lord has done the work for him. As Lord Siva wrote the accounts He is called "Ezhutharinathar." It is said that Sun God worshipped the Lord. It is said that Sun light falls on the presiding deity on a few specified days every year. Sri Appar, one of the four Saivite stalwarts, has sung in praise of Lord Ezhutharinathar. His consort is Sri Sukunda Kundalambal. Senbaga tree is the ‘sthala virutcham' of the temple.
