Santhome Cathedral Basilica in Chennai is a sacred place, especially for the Catholic Christian. The name Santhome Cathedral Basilica was derived from the name St. Thomas who was an archbishop of the Catholic Christians. After his death the body of St. Thomas was buried in this place and as a tribute to his soul a church has been built in this southern part of Marina beach.
St. Thomas church is a living example of Gothic style of architecture. Stained glass depicts divine moment of St. Thomas's meeting with the resurrected Christ. Some remains of the corpse and some part of saint's bone have been preserved in the crypt.
