Bahubali Temple



Located at Kumbhojgiri near Sangli is the beautiful Bahubali hill temples. These hills are popularly known as "Kumbhojgiri". It is a popular site revered by both Hindus and Jains. Huge devotees thronged the temple to worship the 28-feet tall marble statue of Bahubali and visit the temples of the 24 Tirthankaras or saints. A Celibacy Resort was established in 1935 and named after the sage Bahubali who mediated here about 300 years before.

As a Religious Symbol

Bahubali is known worldwide as a symbol of sacrifice, and with his experience, he enlightened the world, letting people know the way that a man had to take to live in peace and harmony. He advocated that all men must let go off his desires and ego. Presently, there are five monolithic statues of Bahubali in Karnataka, out of which the statue at Shravanabelagola is the tallest.
